A BARRY mum whose cousin suffers from a rare neurological condition has, with a team of 29 people, raised more than £3000 for charity.
Vicky Gee, of Goodwick Close, Gibbonsdown, organised a sponsored walk from outside Santander in Barry town to the Principality Stadium, in Cardiff late last year, the fundraising from which has now reached £3001.50.
Ms Gee’s cousin, Abigail Stone, 24, has Friedrich’s Ataxia which currently has no cure.
Ataxia is an umbrella term for a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination and speech.
The walk was to raise funds and awareness for Ataxia UK.
Ms Gee said: “We had balloons, Ataxia leaflets which we were handing out all the way to Cardiff and we were carrying Ataxia money tins. Everyone had so much fun on the way and it was so lovely to have Abi rolling with us.”
She thanked everyone who took part in the walk and donated through the fundraising page and Ataxia money tins.
She said: “It means the world to all of my family. I would also like to thank Garry Collins and Rachel Williams for the donation of water bottles, Santander UK for the £1000 match donation. Serena Ahmed who was our angel, she drove her car beside us all the way with a first aid kit and refreshments. The Billy Bar for allowing us to put a Ataxia money tin in the pub and James Prosser from Tesco in Rhoose for also allowing us to put a Ataxia UK money tin in the store.”
