A HOUSING association has apologised to its tenants after around 40 bags of refuse went uncollected for four months - despite residents’ complaints.

Tenants in Liddicoat Court, Cadoxton, Barry, Teresa and James Kelsey were among those in the Newydd Housing Association apartment block scheme who complained about black-bag refuse which began piling up since Christmas Eve last year.

The problems began when the communal bins were removed and not replaced on residents' request.

The rubbish is attracting rats and mice with the ripped black bags also becoming a daily attraction for cats.

Great grandmother Teresa Kelsey, 62, said: “We asked them to give us bins because the old ones got decrepit. We’ve told them about the bags, but they never do anything.

“The whole mess has led to cats watching. They have learned how to scratch the bags as they are watching for the presence of rats, but they are keeping the sea gulls away.

“It’s not going to be long before summer and we’ll have one hell of a problem.

“We would like two bins as soon as possible.”

Mr Kelsey, 62, added: “We told a housing officer and heard that tenants in another place had got their bins long before.”

Newydd Housing Association chief executive, Paul Roberts, said: “We would like to apologise to the residents of Liddicoat Court for the unpleasant mess they have experienced.

"Bins were ordered at the end of last year for their bin store and delivery of these were confirmed in the first week of February this year, however it seems this was a miscommunication from the supplier.

"We will now reorder these bins for Liddicoat Court. We have also raised a job to get the rubbish collected as soon as possible. We urge residents to keep in touch with us over the coming weeks to help us keep the area tidy and ensure they leave their bins on the curb side on the day of refuse collection until the bins arrive for the bin store."
