ROTARY’S District 1150 governor Steve Jenkins was the special guest at a recent dinner meeting of the Rotary Club of Barry held at the Glenbrook Inn, Barry.

Speaking to members and guests after dinner, Steve shared his views on Rotary, an international organisation and the biggest service organisation in the world, whose core values are service, fellowship and integrity.

He went on to speak of the many projects Rotary are engaged in locally, nationally and internationally and how these projects give members an opportunity to make a difference and to change lives by helping those less fortunate than others.

As well as encouraging all Rotarians to encourage new people – men and women - to join Rotary to continue the good work and enjoy the fellowship that is such an important part of membership, he was delighted to induct Judith Hunt as a full member of the club.

Barry Rotary club’s president Robin Pitcher warmly thanked district governor Steve for a most interesting talk; part of a very busy autumn for the Barry club who organised the 43rd Annual Fireworks Fiesta on Barry Island on November 5 followed by a successful International Lunch later in November to raise money for the Haiti hurricane disaster.

The club also supported the Dickensian Evening in Dinas Powys and will be holding a Carol Concert for the residents at Golau Caredig on Monday evening, December 19.

The Rotary Club of Barry also continues to support the Vale Foodbank with monthly donations of food and helped with the collecting of food at Tesco, Barry during the first weekend in December.

Members of the Rotary Club of Barry are part of an international organisation with one million members worldwide, forming a global network of business, professional and community volunteers.

The Rotary Club of Barry meets weekly in the Glenbrook Inn on Thursdays at 6pm for 6.30pm.
