Extracts from the Barry & District News of December 9, 1966:

Passengers embarking and disembarking at the Glamorgan Airport, Rhoose, will not be accorded the chance of staying at a proposed airport hotel, as a result of a decision taken by the licensing justices sitting at Penarth on Wednesday.

Tomorrow is the closing date for entries in this year's "Bake-a-Cake" competition, organised by the Wales Gas Board in conjunction with the Barry and District News.

Early on Thursday morning 37 cakes had been received at the Board's offices in Broad Street.

Many of the requests received by Father Christmas, now in residence at the town hall, have failed to mention their names and addresses. Remember children. Even Father Christmas doesn't know the names and addresses of all his young friends, who write to him.

The visit of HMS Glamorgan to the county, which was to have taken place between December 2-5, had to be cancelled because of the weather conditions during the weekend.

Youngsters in the town are in for a fine evening's fun on Thursday, December 22...not only do they finish school for the Christmas holidays on this date, but in addition they are to have a variety programme of their very own.

The new BBC Orchestra makes its first appearance in Wales on Thursday, December 15, when it broadcasts a concert from the Barry Memorial Hall in the Home Service.

On October 30, 320 Guides, Rangers and Guiders from Barry, Penarth, Dinas Powys, Sully and Rhoose took part in a walk from Barry to Penarth in aid of the Aberfan Disaster Fund and this week, the last of the money so kindly given by sponsors, has been received.

The dismal form shown by Barry during the first two months of the present season is merely a memory, as the team goes cantering through stiff opposition at the Reservoir Field.

Roving Club's fine record of not having conceded a goal this season fell to lowly Yellow Hammers on Saturday, but it later transpired that the goal-scorer was ineligible for the under-14 league.

On Saturday, Barry Junior Boys journeyed to Cardiff to play Cardiff Junior Boys in the first leg of the Welsh Schools Football Association Junior Shield Competition and can be considered unfortunate to lose by the only goal scored in the closing minutes.

What can you make of a team which gained its third away win of the season, at Sittingbourne on Saturday, by a margin of 5-0 and which has yet to gain its first victory before its own supporters?
