AIR Cadets from 372 (Barry) Squadron travelled to Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton to help launch the 2016 Royal British Legion (RBL) poppy appeal and then went on to raise an amazing £4,300.

The cadets were a familiar sight around Barry; collecting in Tesco’s and at Barry Train Station to support the work of the legion.

Roy Goodwin from the Royal British Legion paid tribute to the cadets saying: “I am pleased that the air cadets have again supported the Royal British Legion this year and have raised this magnificent sum of money; which will help and support ex-service personnel in our community”.

Flight lieutenant Jason Horton, officer commanding 372 Squadron also commented: “I am immensely proud of these fine young men and women who have again helped to raise the profile of the ongoing work of the Royal British Legion; launching the 2016 poppy appeal. The air cadets are again truly amazing young people”.

Whilst the air cadets enjoy the many and varied activities, which the Air Training Corps provide; the cadets are also encouraged to give something back to their communities.

Last year the air cadets raised more than £7,000 and gave 1,500 volunteering hours helping numerous community organisations including the Royal Air Forces Association and Bobath Children’s Charity.

The air cadets undertake many exciting activities and opportunities including flying, gliding, shooting, sports, adventure training, team building exercises, expeditions, visits and field craft training and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme expeditions.

If you have a spirit for adventure, 372 Squadron, welcomes all young men and women between 12 (in school Year 8) and 17-years-old to join.

The squadron parade at 5th Barry Scouts on Everard Street, Barry on Monday evening from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and Wednesday evening from 7pm to 9.30pm.
