Extracts from the Barry & District News of October 21, 1966:

The heaviest rain Barry has known for many years took the town by surprise on Wednesday evening and council workmen and firemen were kept busy for several hours.

The Isabel Davis Male Singers travelled to Cardiff on Wednesday week to give a concert at the headquarters of the Penylan and Roath Old Age Pensioners Club. The hall was packed to capacity.

The number of persons registered as unemployed on October 10 increased by 40 men and 34 women over the previous month's figures. The total now stands at 588, comprising 490 men and 98 women. This figure compares favourably with that of the previous year when 465 men and 121 women (total of 586) were unemployed.

Council garage-building schemes, to alleviate the ever increasing volume of parked vehicles on Corporation estates in the town, continue to provide much of the discussion at Housing Management a Committee meetings.

It was a bitter blow for Barry Town soccer fans when the team turned out against Margate in a Southern League game at Jenner Park on Saturday without Dudley Price, the Merthyr Tydfil inside-forward, who previously played for Swansea Town, Hull and Southend.

Round one of the Supporters' Cup matches did not bring any major surprises, but it was noticeable that Colcot Stars, although they beat Harbour United, could only do so by the odd goal.

On Saturday week Barry Dockers met and defeated Avonmouth in the first round of the Newlands Cup. In this match at Avonmouth the game swung from end to end and but for some good goalkeeping by the home 'keeper Barry would have built up a good lead. Half-time came with no score.

Members of the Barry Romilly Bowling Club want the Barry Town Council to help them with the provision of a new pavilion.
