A BARRY opticians is showing its support for a Royal Marines parade marching through the town centre this Saturday, June 18.

Specsavers, on Holton Road, is getting behind the event by offering customers the opportunity to have minor adjustments and repairs to their frames in return for a donation to the military charity, Help for Heroes.

The ship’s company of HMS Cambria will march past the store, stopping at the civic offices to raise the Armed Forces Day flag in advance of Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 25.

Help for Heroes is an important organisation for the Specsavers team in Barry with store manager, Kath McNicholas seeing her son Joe take part in the Cardiff half marathon this October to fundraise on behalf of his friends who serve in the military.

Store director Jamie Pullen said: ‘Excitement is building in the town this week ahead of the Royal Marines parade and we want to show our support by using the event as an opportunity to fundraise for a military charity.

“We’re urging customers to really get behind our efforts for Help for Heroes, which is actually our chosen charity for the year. By dropping in a pair of glasses that need adjusting this weekend, you’ll be helping an important charity and getting your frames fixed!’

Help for Heroes supported more than 4,000 veterans through their recovery centres, last year.

Other services offered by the organisation include financial support and sports recovery for service men, women and their families.
