Extracts from the Barry & District News of May 27, 1966:

It's a race against time to get Butlin's Holiday Camp at Barry Island ready in time to receive the first campers - 2,500 are expected - on June 18.

The match which everybody wanted to see on Saturday was the Barry Senior Cup final played between Cadoxton Albion and Distillers Plastics. After extra time had been played, the teams were still drawing - one all - prolonging even more the 1965-66 season.

On Monday, Garden Suburb, playing their second game of the season, the first being a 69-run defeat by a strong Llanharan side, were entertained at Blackweir by the Wales Gas Board.

The annual fete in connection with the Friends of Sully Hospital will be held in the grounds of the hospital on Saturday, June 25, opening at 2.15pm. Among the many attractions will be the Band of the Roath Temple Salvation Army, together with side shows, which include a bowling alley, bingo, pet stall, a book stall, a patients' stall (work done by the patients), and a stamp collection and exchange stall.

On Monday week the Barry YMCA's men's team visited Peterston-super-Ely and in a friendly match in the church hall were beaten by eight rubbers to one. This was not surprising as the home team play in Division II of the Cardiff and District League; even so, there were some keenly-fought and enjoyable matches.

The newly-formed Welsh Society at St Peter's Church has aroused considerable interest in the village and plans are now being made for an autumn programme.

At the last blood donation session in Rhoose on May 10, 53 people attended, of whom 49 were able to give donations, including four new donors.

Porthkerry Gunners made a grand exit from the 1965/66 soccer season last week when they lost by only 6-5 to the top of the division, Colcot Youth.

Porthkerry took the lead after five minutes play and this was more of a surprise to themselves than to anyone else.
