COLEG Gwent student Jane Baker lived up to her name recently when she entered The Barry Island Bake-Off and won.
Ms Baker, who is studying HNC Hair and Beauty Management at the college’s Pontypool campus produced a cake that was special in more ways than one.
Her cake named '617' was designed to support British war veterans with Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder (PTSD).
Group 617, which organises the bake-off, works to support war veterans and raise awareness about both the armed and emergency services.
She said: “The bake-off raised £250 which is fantastic. I support Group 617 which meets every Tuesday morning at ‘Room 617’ in Penarth Pavilion to give practical and emotional support to these veterans.”
Room 617 was established as a tribute to local Dambuster, Guy Gibson, wing commander of the 617 Squadron, who married a Penarth woman and lived locally.
Barry Island cafe owner, Marco Zeraschi presented the prize donated by Morrisons.
