NEWLY appointed Secretary of State for Wales, Alun Cairns will aim to be the UK government’s fastest cabinet member in the London Marathon, on April 24.
Vale MP Alun Cairns will compete in the Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday after joining forces with two local charities for the 2016 event.
Mr Cairns will be raise funds for Breast Cancer Now and the Brain Tumour Charity when he joins the thousands of runners pounding 26.2 miles of the Capital’s roads.
Local representatives of Breast Cancer Now and the Brain Tumour Charity met with Mr Cairns recently to tell their stories and explain more about the work the charities do in the local community.
Mr Cairns said: “The London Marathon date has arrived very quickly and, despite an injury, I have managed to build up my training schedule. I am raising money for two excellent charities after discussing experiences of local friends who have taken such a positive approach to illness. I am reminded of the importance of fundraising, so awareness of the good work undertaken by local volunteers is vital.”
