TRADERS in Barry are being urged to sponsor poppy wreaths for young people to lay at one of this year's Remembrance events, marking Armistice Day.

This year the Gallipoli, VE Day and VJ Day anniversaries have been marked and just recently the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Volunteer, Bryan Foley said: “It is important to encourage young people to remember these events, and the many that will be marked over the next three years from the First World War conflict .This can happen with your help and support that these events will live on and continue to be remembered.

“It is important for our young people to understand the enormity of what the costs and grief were during these times . Alone in scouting in Barry we have approximately 500 young people in this district. Many of our former scouts made the ultimate sacrifice in these conflicts which is why as group scout leader of the 11th Barry Sea Scouts, and on behalf of the Royal British Legion (Barry) , I am appealing to the many businesses or companies that may not normally do anything to get behind this appeal and sponsor a wreath or wreaths which could be laid on behalf of the company by a young person from the town.

“Last year 245 wreaths were laid in Barry so wouldn’t it be a fitting tribute to try and increase this number to 300 this year?”
