BARRY Island is now on course for some fairground rides for this Easter after showman Henry Denter finally took delivery of the fairground’s keys yesterday (Monday, March 30).

Despite some last-minute wrangling 71-year-old showman Henry, his daughter Kimberley, brother Billy and nephew James Danter assumed possession of the keys which will allow them to establish some as-promised and hoped for rides.

The iconic 4.5 acre site, at the popular seaside’s hub, has deteriorated over the past decade and Mr Danter now hopes he can spend the next five years putting that situation right – establishing it as “the best tourist attraction in Wales.”

Mr Danter welcomed the JCBs onto the grounds to begin demolishing the legendary Log Flume, now in an un-retrievable state of repair, to make way for a number of thrill and children’s rides.

First onto the Island was the Freak Out Ride with the Star Flyer, Miami and dodgems, followed by a number of children’s rides including a rollercoaster.

The family plan to site many of the rides in the central area of the park where the site is currently the most clear.

Mr Danter said he hoped that the Log Flume demolition would begin tomorrow (March 31) when a breaker arrives on site to demolish the reinforced.

“It’s been a very stressful day. It’s been a long day. It hasn’t been an easy one. We will do the best we can. We have made a start, but we will put on a show. I more or less promised the people of Barry we would put a show on for Easter. We’re here now and we’ll do what we can as quickly as we can.”

25 are now on site in a round-the-clock effort to get the Park open.
