Extracts from the Barry & District

News of February 25, 1965:

l Cats of all shapes and varieties were featured at the West of England and South Wales Cat Society Show held at Sophia Gardens Pavilion, Cardiff, on Saturday, but the judges were particularly impressed with 10 cats from Rhoose, for they won 33 cards between them.

l The hope that Barry Harriers would have a representative in the Welsh team which will compete in the Empire and Commonwealth Games, to be held in Jamaica in 1966, was expressed at the club's third annual presentation dinner, held at the Barry Hotel on Friday.

l Plans are now finalised for the 10 day publicity tour of the Midlands area sponsored by Barry Town Development Committee which commences on Monday next.

l About 30 girls from Holton Road Secondary School spent all of Saturday morning and afternoon delivering over 3,000 leaflets publicising the Save the Children Fund clothing collection which takes place in the town today (Thursday) and Friday.

In snow, wind and rain they rallied round the cause, all for the pleasure of knowing that they were trying to help children less fortunate than themselves.

l Barry Swimming Club combined with Roath Park Ladies on Wednesday week to compete against Ebbw Vale in a four-lane event. Many close finishes contributed to a successful evening which was well rounded off by the lavish hospitality of the home club, Ebbw Vale.

l The South Wales and Monmouthshire round four cup match between the top two teams in the Barry and District League, Cadoxton Albion and Colcot Stars was re-played at the Sports Centre on Saturday.

l Trinity reached the semi-final of the South Wales and Mon Youth Cup on Saturday when they beat the strong Treorchy and Cwmparc boys' Club team by 2-1 at the Sports Centre.
