A WATER-BASED community organisation has followed up its water access licence agreement with the signing of the land lease.

Barry Community Water Activities signed the lease for the agreed site at the east end of the Mole, which is the land that juts out into No 1 Dock, opposite Barry Morrison’s supermarket.

Trustees signed the Land Lease with Associated British Ports (ABP) so that the slipway and infrastructure works can start as soon as the building consortium complete the new road to the Mole, which spurs off the new Barry Island road.

Chairman Chris Basten said “This is an ideal site for the training in sailing, canoeing, rowing in fact almost every form of water sports. We are delighted to have concluded the land and water leases and licences, which means we can create a community facility that will make great use of the Barry Waterfront, and hopefully inspire people to take to the water.”

The community voluntary organisation is seeking volunteers, supporters, partners, users, and funding streams and grants.

Several phases will result in a building that can accommodate training, changing rooms, showers, toilets, and other related facilities.
