THE 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War has seen the Barry branch of the Royal British Legion overwhelmed with support.
Poppy appeal volunteers have experienced a huge boost to their annual fundraising campaign.
Poppy appeal co-ordinator, Roy Goodwin, said: “We have just completed the interim Poppy Appeal accounts for the year commencing October 1, 2014. So far we have raised £43,434.47. By comparison, for the whole of the year October 2013 to September 2014 we raised just over £33,000, so this is a colossal achievement. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the people of Barry, Rhoose and Peterston who have contributed so generously and given of their time so freely in order to achieve this.
“’Thank you' seems inadequate.”
