A NEW chairman has been voted in by the Barry at War Group, who run the popular Glamorgan Wartime Heritage Centre at Barry Island, at its recent Extraordinary General Meeting.

Founding chairman and Wartime Weekend organiser Ade Pitman has handed over duties to Glenn Booker.

Ade said: "Having been the chair of the Barry at War group since its creation in 2011, as a group we felt that following a hectic 2014, culminating with the recent remembrance commemorations, that it was the right time to hand over to a new chair.

"As one of the original members of the group, and its expert on the Americans in Barry and South Wales, Barrian, Glenn Booker was voted in as the natural choice.

"Since the formation of Barry at War, and the creation of the Glamorgan Wartime Heritage Centre, which celebrates its second anniversary this week, the group has grown in both size and experience under my Chairmanship.

"I have every confidence in Glenn's ability, as he leads the museum and the group to the next level.

"I personally will now be concentrating my volunteering efforts on my work with Barry`s Air Training Squadron, and the Barry Royal Air Force Association.

"We are planning to take a group of Cadets to Normandy next summer, and to create a suitable commemoration in Barry to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, next September."

The Glamorgan Wartime Heritage Centre is open on Wednesday afternoons, and will be open on Sunday November 30. Up to the minute information can be found at the group's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BarryAtWarHistoryGroup.
