SERVICE users from a Vale charity marked the retirement of the organisations co-founder with a certificate presentation and cups of coffee.

Barry-based charity ValePlus, which provides lifelong learning and leisure opportunities for people with a learning disability, recently held a certificate presentation morning at its High Street centre, in Barry.

Many parents, carers and friend attended to support the successful learners who gained awards in a number of subjects.

Present were Alun Cairns MP, Jane Hutt AM and the mayors of Barry, Penarth and LLantwit Major.

The occasion also marked the retirement of Melanie Carter, director and co-founder of ValePlus, who after years at the helm decided to step down to spend more time pursuing her hobbies.

Mike Shanahan, the ValePlus chairman of trustees, made a presentation to Mel on behalf of all the members.
