AN APPRENTICE on a Barry building site has been selected to take part in a UK-wide competition.
Apprentice carpenter Josh Hackett, currently working at the former Barry Magistrates Courts site, Thompson Street, has been selected to compete at the UK National SkillBuild competition, in Birmingham.
Josh finished runner up in a Wales wide junior skills event last year.
Josh said: “I had originally planned to go into Sports Science and completed my National Diploma but was encouraged by family background in the industry and the job opportunities to train as a carpenter” .
Josh is working on the £6.3million project with five other apprentices.
The 52 affordable homes and retail space for new businesses has been developed by Newydd housing association in partnership with Vale Council.
Site manager Nyron Wood said: “We are very pleased with Josh’s progress on site and delighted to support his participation at this national event. All of the Jehu apprentices on site are showing promise and commitment and Josh is effectively representing them all at the competition.”
