AN APPEAL has been made for any information that would help a woman trace the father she never met.
Christine Charles' mother May Preston met her father while he was stationed at Worsley Barracks in York in 1946.
All she knows of the man she believes was named John Thomas - but known as Jack - is that he was a sergeant who had his stripes removed when his relationship with May was discovered.
Upon discharge he returned to his hometown of Barry where he lived on "a large council estate 10 minutes from the waterfront".
At the time he would have been around 25 years old, had wavy black hair and a small moustache.
Christine, 67, knows it's a long shot but after exploring every other avenue she is hoping someone is Barry may be able to help with some information.
"Just to see a photograph would be enough," she said. "It's come to the point where if I don;t find him now I never will."
Anyone with any information can contact the Barry & District News on 01446 704978 or email dominic.jones@gwent-wales.co.uk
