A TASTER day of activities for disabled adults could lead to regular weekly sessions at Barry Leisure Centre.

Staff from the Leisure Centre and Disability Sport Wales Development Officer Simon Jones organised the day of physical activity with 18 disabled adults enjoying the event.

A range of activities were adapted so that everyone could take part with support provided by staff from the council's adult services team.

The day's activities included badminton, football, seated aerobics and use of the gym facilities. Following the taster day it is hoped that a regular weekly session can be set up in the centre for disabled adults to attend.

Simon Jones said: “The aim of the day was to create opportunities for disabled people in the leisure centre and show how the staff can adapt activities to allow everyone to get involved.

"Everyone taking part had a smile on their face and enjoyed the activities.

“Barry Leisure Centre is a very good local facility and wants more disabled people to use the centre throughout the week.

"The staff are very accommodating, and I encourage people to go along to the centres to see what they can take part in.”
