BANK holiday weather can be unpredictable, but rain won’t dampen the fun at the Barry Tourist Railway this Easter weekend.

Vintage trains will be running and the Glamorgan Wartime Heritage Centre located in Barry Island Railway Station will be open on Easter Sunday, along with craft stalls to ensure there’s something for all the family.

Barry at War chair Ade Pitman said: "The Easter Weekend is the first joint event that we will be holding with the Barry Tourist Railway this year, and we have many others planned throughout the summer including our annual Barry Wartime Weekend at the end of August.

The station makes the perfect all weather venue, and for a bit of family fun on Easter Sunday we are having a a movie/tv theme. ‘Oddball’ from the 1970s movie ‘Kellys Heroes’ will be making an appearance and we will also have a 1940s police phone box appearing, which looks like a Dr Who TARDIS.

We will also have living historians in period clothing, so there will be plenty of photo opportunities for the kids and we would like to see them dressed as second world war evacuees, so they too can join in the vintage fun.

For family members looking to learn about the region’s wartime history our volunteers will be on hand, and Second World War Navy Veteran turned author, Alun Higgins will be launching his new book at the museum on Easter Sunday afternoon.

The Barry Tourist Railway will be running vintage trains all weekend, and every child who rides on the train will receive a chocolate rabbit.’’
