A GIANT Barry Island deckchair has helped raise £750 to help keep volunteer lifeboat crew afloat.

Pat Collins Snr of Promenade Amusements Barry Island came up with an innovative way of raising money for Barry Dock Lifeboat Station using a giant deckchair.

Pat said: “We installed the deckchair to advertise our deckchair rentals and it very quickly became an iconic feature on Barry Island seafront. Visitors love to have their picture taken sitting in the chair which will hold up to six adults at a time. In return, we ask for a donation to Barry Dock Lifeboat Station which provides such an invaluable service, highlighted during the recent storms.”

The money was presented to Chris Osborne on behalf of the organisation.

Chris said: “The money will enable us to bring forward training for our crew, something we have been keen to do for a while. We are extremely grateful to Pat and to all of the people who donated; such generosity will make a real difference.”
