JOINING hundreds of fundraisers on Barry Island, MP Alun Cairns took part in the Sports Relief Mile, raising money for charity and getting in some last minute training ahead of next month's London Marathon.

Mr Cairns, who will be running the marathon in aid of Marie Curie and Ty Hapus, was joined on Barry Island by Jane Hutt AM and Councillor Lis Burnett on Sunday, March 23.

He said: "Judging by the number of people at the starting line on Sunday, this year’s Sport Relief mile in Barry will have raised a great deal of money for the campaign.

“It was a great turnout on the day and a much needed run-out for me, particularly with the London Marathon approaching so quickly.

"It was also wonderful to see so many people of all ages and abilities, from toddlers with their parents, to competitive athletes and those like myself who like to keep fit.

“Sport Relief brings together some of the best things about Britain, not only are we a healthily competitive nation, we are also one of the most generous in terms of raising money for worthy causes."
