THE final legal agreements for the Barry Island link road are set to be signed by the end of next week.
Welcoming a report to the Vale council's planning committee Councillor Lis Burnett, cabinet member for regeneration and planning said: “I am delighted that we are now addressing the last few legal hurdles and will hopefully soon see the road become a reality.”
She added a note of caution for those reading the report that the projected deadlines are maximum dates.
"The Consortium is working to a far shorter timescale," she said. "And, as has been quoted in local media only this week, plan to deliver the new road by as early as the Spring of next year.”
The report has to be agreed by the Planning Committee in order to sign off a change to the original terms of the legal agreement with the developers.
This change includes additional obligations to reflect the terms of a separate loan agreement that is being sought in order to bring forward the link road's completion.
