MORE than 100 people attended the free organ recital on Saturday, February 1, at All Saints Church, Barry, performed by Canon Graham Holcombe, organist at Llandaff Cathedral.
It was truly a memorable occasion to hear the refurbished organ being played to its maximum capability and the wonderful sounds it produced. £70,000 has been raised over the last two and a half years in support of the works that needed to be undertaken.
Canon Holcombe introduced all the pieces of music and the programme commenced with Fanfare by William Mathias, the Welsh composer. The recital also included Trumpet Tune by Purcell which was played at Princess Margaret’s wedding and also Suzanne Grover’s wedding. Further pieces included Bach, Handel, Louis Verne to name a few.
Following the recital Father Adrian gave a vote of thanks to all those who had attended the recital and past events in support of the appeal, the PCC fundraising sub-committee for organising the refreshments, recital and for the success of the appeal. Finally thanks were given to Canon Graham Holcombe who was presented with a bag of organ appeal merchandising as a momento of the occasion.
