VALE AM Jane Hutt has paid tribute to a long-serving volunteer, who has died aged 93.

Barry resident Peggy Taylor gave 50 years' service to the British Red Cross and volunteered at the Open Learning Centre teaching adults for whom English was a second language and those with special needs.

Jane said: “For many years Peggy registered me and many others, as participants in the annual Kidney Wales fundraising walk, in memory of her son John and grandson Richard and this year took part herself being pushed around the course in her wheelchair by her younger son Ricky.

She was always 'doing good' her late husband affectionately said and she was someone who believed in 'goodness' in everyone. She had a strong sense of 'fair play' and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, her church and fellow volunteers."

Peggy Taylor's funeral will take place at Holy Trinity Church Hall, on Trinity Street, Barry, at 1pm and at the crematorium at 2.15pm on Thursday, January 16.
