LOCAL Motion Dance Company were delighted to be selected for an Understanding Disability Award by the Cardiff and Vale Parents Federation for best local group, in recognition of the their work in promoting a positive understanding of people with a learning disability.

The aim of the award is to encourage good practice in improving attitudes in the community towards disability.

The judges were impressed by the group's enthusiasm and commitment for providing integrated dance opportunities for disabled children and young people, the links they create with local primary and secondary schools, their up-to-date staff training, and for the confidence the classes give disabled children and young people for them to access the community and raise their self esteem.

The group would like to thank all their dance members and parents for their continued support and young volunteers who help out in the sessions, with special thanks to their wonderful teachers Sophie Batey, Sam Griffiths and Sammie Owens for all their hard work and creativity.

They welcome any new members to come and dance with them at Barry YMCA on Thursdays at 4.30pm - 5.15pm for ages 5-10 years and 5.30pm - 6.30pm for ages 11-18 years.
