RAIL companies have vowed to rectify the problems that have caused cancellations, delays and disruptions across Barry and the Vale in recent weeks.

On Friday, November 1, and again on Tuesday, November 5, trains between Barry and Cardiff Central were completely cancelled due a fault on the line at Cogan Junction and Cadoxton which has now been fixed.

Arriva Trains apologised for the disruption which saw all services between Barry and Cardiff cancelled in the afternoons of the days in question and further delays into the evening due to the disruption.

Further problems that have affected routes between Rhoose International Airport Railway Station In and Bridgend have been caused by flooding on the lines after the recent spate of wet weather.

A spokeswoman explained that the line is susceptible to flooding due to how low it is with water running onto it from adjacent land.

She said: "Network Rail will carry out work over the next few days to try and alleviate this problem and more extensive work is planned in the area over Christmas and early January.

"Arriva Trains Wales has been providing a rail replacement bus service on occasions when rail services have been cancelled due to flooding and will continue to monitor the situation in order to minimise disruption for passengers."
