THE Vale Council has bought a £17,500 Skoda Superb to replace the mayor's Jaguar that was written off in a supermarket car park in September.

The council took delivery of the car on Monday (November 5) to replace the Jaguar XJ6 V6 SE Auto that had to be disposed of following an incident at Morrisons on Barry Waterfront.

Vale Council council fleet manager, Gareth George said: "It was important to source a replacement vehicle for the Jaguar that was suitable for the council's corporate engagements and relevant to the current economic climate and our wish to reduce our environmental impact.

"We were able to take advantage of a recent 20 per cent reduction in the retail price and also purchase a vehicle with class-leading exhaust emissions.

"The new vehicle has zero road tax cost for the first year and £30 per year thereafter; it is also capable of achieving up to 64 miles per gallon."
