A BARRY woman is reaching out to would-be Barry choir members with the qualification of not being able to sing.

Choir manager Jessica Davies-Timmins is urging Vale people to channel their inner tuneless and join like-minded people who struggle to hold a note.

She will launch Wales’ first Tuneless Choir at Aspire Fitness gym, in Cardiff on Sunday, September 11.

She said: “I was doing some work for the Royal Voluntary Service’s campaign Sing Your Heart Out, and came across a Tuneless Choir in Nottingham and immediately loved the idea. I asked them if I could set up something similar in Cardiff.”

The choirs is led by Mei Gwynedd, professional musician, producer and director of Cerddorfa Ukelele, the choir promises to be fun and loud.

“We’re looking forward to belting out some tunes. We’ll give out glass of wine on arrival at the first session. I wouldn’t normally recommend it before singing, but it should help lower any inhibitions. We’ll resort to the more usual tea and coffee when we break at half time, and we’ll have flapjacks which will help boost energy levels and keep us singing.”

Mrs Davies-Timmins said: “We know that group singing is good for you physically, emotionally and socially,” explains Jess “Though most of all, we hope people will have fun and leave feeling uplifted.

“We’re asking for people to make song suggestions.

“I’d like to sing Hotel California and a bit of ABBA, but I’m not too fussy. The important thing is that people feel comfortable using their voice and enjoy themselves.”

Tuneless Choir Cardiff launches at the Aspire fitness gym, Canton, Cardiff, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm on Sunday, September 11.

There will be a registration and first session charge of £10 per person.
