PLAINSONG will be performing in Barry on the weekend following the release of their CD, Reinventing Richard - The Songs of Richard Farina.

It has been a long awaited project for Plainsong, with Richard Farina, a major part of early 60s folk in the US alongside Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and his wife Mimi Baez being an early career influence for a young Iain Matthews, frontman of Plainsong.

Originally intending the album as a solo CD with the help of ex-Plainsong members - the final tour was in 2012 - Andy Roberts and Mike Griffiths, it soon became apparent that it should be a band CD.

An original member of Fairport Convention, Iain quickly moved on to form Matthews Southern Comfort, performing at Woodstock '69 and having a European number one with Joni Mitchell's song Woodstock.

Since then Iain lived for many years in the US, releasing 15 solo CDs, many produced by Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees and occasionally touring with Plainsong.

Now living in the Netherlands, Iain played Barry last year to a full house with Egbert Derix on keyboards.

Plainsong play Barry West End Club on Saturday, July 2 with what is the only trio show of the tour.

Tickets available on 07561 143114.
