CARDIFF and Vale Breast Cancer Now Group have organised a walk at Porthkerry Park to raise funds for important research work in the battle to stop deaths from cancer.

The Conker Walk, will be held at the park with registration take place at the Forest Lodge, near the cafe, on Saturday, October 10 at 1.30pm.

Registrations costs £5 for adults and £2 for 6-16 year olds.

Sponsorship is optional and sponsorship forms, if wanted, are available from Pam by calling 07919 035658.

The walk takes the form of a 2k or 4k route through the picturesque park, the 2k is mostly flat and runs from the Forest Lodge to the Conker tree in the upper car park and back. The 4k walk again starts from the Forest Lodge, passes the Conker tree and winds through the woods to Nant Talwg Way and back and is more challenging so walkers will need walking boots/sturdy shoes.

They encourage participants and supporters to deck the tree with pink ribbons as they pass to demonstrate their support for all those affected by breast cancer. It is not a race and participants can be of all abilities and ages.

The walk will start at around 2pm and marshals will be on the routes to direct walkers. The group hopes many people in the local community will get involved and enjoy some healthy exercise and support a worthwhile cause.

Breast Cancer Now is the UK's leading Breast Cancer Research Charity.

Each year 50,000 women and around 350 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK. While more and more people are surviving the disease due to improvements in treatments, around 12,000 breast cancer sufferers will die each year.

Research is essential to ensure more survive. Breast Cancer Now’s mission is that by 2050, anyone who develops the disease will live.
