CARDIFF Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate Independence Day in style with their spectacular American Night concert on Saturday, July 4 – and you can be there in the best seats in the house.

Barry & District News have teamed up with St David’s Hall to offer one lucky reader the chance to live the American dream with a pair of tickets up for grabs.

For one night only it’s all about the Star-Spangled Banner at the National Concert Hall of Wales with this stunning show featuring the music of America’s best loved composers.

Impeccably conducted by Michael Bell, the orchestra starts with George Gershwin’s Girl Crazy including classic numbers such as Embraceable You and I Got Rhythm.

Hot on its heels is the Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, which is one of the most dynamic and irresistible of American works. Likewise, Barber’s Adagio for Strings is up there with the most beautiful and moving pieces of music ever written, whilst Copland’s cowboy ballet Rodeo evokes sepia images of the old West.

Plus, there will be a medley of Glenn Miller hits including In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade and American Patrol, before Sousa’s Liberty Bell and Stars & Stripes Forever bring the concert to a rousing conclusion.
