DYFFRYN Gardens will be using its Exhibition Hall to showcase works by local art groups throughout the year.

Cardiff School of Art and Design will be the first to exhibit on February 18 and will be displaying until mid-March with eight students works in a variety of media.

The works are in response to new research they have about the Cory family who lived at Dyffryn during the late 1890s and early 1900s.

Dyffryn house does not have any furniture or remaining possessions of the family as it was all put up for auction in 1939. Some of the students are creating artists representations of what the rooms may have looked like using the original auction catalogue. This will provide a great insight to how the Cory’s would have lived.

“We are really excited to have CSAD opening our first exhibition. They have come back with some fantastic work in response to the gardens and house. As we don’t have any photos of the interior of the house during the Cory time it is very difficult to imagine the splendour the rooms would have had. The artist’s impressions will help our visitors to see what it may have looked like.” said Rhiannon Gamble, Learning and Interpretation Officer, Dyffryn Gardens.

The show will be based in the exhibition hall with some works featured in the house. Also on display will be sketchbooks and bits of the student’s work in progress.

The next exhibition will be from Vale of Glamorgan Arts Association beginning in March.
