A LOCAL Pop Quiz is celebrating what is believed to be the longest-running Pop Quiz in the world – ever. Although the exact date is uncertain, it’s thought that the Quiz, in the Park Hotel started in 1986.

It has been held just about every Tuesday since, and has built up a strong following.

The organiser, Brian Enos, is, quite rightly, proud of their record, and explains that the quiz is all about having a goodnight out. The quiz is a team game and is based on teams identifying tracks (usually 10 to a round), by artiste and title. All genres are covered (Pop, Rock, Indie, Punk etc), as well as all eras from the 1950’s onwards.

Brian explained that there are no prizes for the winners, as it’s all about the taking part. The satisfaction of winning is deemed to be enough. Entry is free, and there is no restriction on the numbers in a team. The idea is that everyone has fun, and there’s always a lot of friendly banter during the evening.

Some quizzers contribute by compiling their own quiz, and take turns to host the evening.

Over the years, teams have come and gone, but the stalwarts remain, and all look forward to their Tuesday night out. The quiz is always looking for new teams, and Brian stresses that everyone is made welcome. The important thing to remember is that taking part is the most important, and it doesn’t matter if you come last.

So, if you think you know your Little Richard from your Little Mix, go along and have some fun.

The Pop Quiz is held every Tuesday at 8.30pm in the Park Hotel, Barry.
