A NUMBER of live events are coming to Barry’s Memo Arts Centre in the coming months.
The centre has released the programme of afternoon concerts for May, June and July as part of their Songs and Scones series.
First up in the series is Bristolian singer/guitarist Chris Webb. He will be at the Memo on Wednesday, May 6, performing modern and classic folk music, acoustic pop and rock ‘n’ roll covers from the 50s onwards.
He has released five albums, a live acoustic album and a number of EPs.
On Wednesday, May 11, mezzo-soprano Nicole Boardman and pianist Giordano Ferla will bring a performance to the centre. Ms Boardman is an alto scholar for the BBC National Chorus of Wales. Mr Ferla has performed as a soloist, a chamber musician and accompanist in the UK, Isle of Man, Italy and Romania.
On Wednesday, June 15, vocalist Elly Hopkins and guitarist Stuart Oliver will be performing their own interpretations of early jazz with the intimacy of a fireside session. The pair met on the Bristol jazz scene and are inspired by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Django Reinhardt.

On Wednesday, July 20, Bethan Semmens will be performing the harp. She has performed with BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and as part of Rick Wakeman’s Journey to the Centre of the World at the Royal Festival Hall. Ms Semmens has also performed as a soloist and chamber musician.
The final performance in the series that has been announced so far will take place on Wednesday, August 24 where ConunDrum will perform. The percussion duo will perform classical music, jazz-influenced works, contemporary compositions and their own arrangements of modern songs.
