A ROUND-UP of recent Barry cases heard at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court.

JOSHUA SMITH, 19, of St Andrews Road, Barry, was sent to a young offender institution for 24 weeks after he pleaded guilty to having a knife in public, possession of cocaine and being in breach of a suspended sentence.

He was also ordered to pay a £128 surcharge.

EMMA AIMEE CHARLIE RYDER, 29, of Court Road, Barry, was banned from driving for 28 months after she pleaded guilty to being more than three times the drink-drive limit, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance in Dinas Powys on July 3.

She must complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 100 hours of unpaid work.

Ryder was also ordered to pay a £95 surcharge and £85 costs.

LUKE SEWELL, 35, of Kenilworth Road, Barry, was jailed for eight weeks, suspended for 18 months, and banned from driving for two years after he admitted to being more than three times the drink-drive limit and failing to stop.

He must also complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement and pay a £120 fine, £128 surcharge and £85 costs.

LLOYD PHILLIP THOMAS, 20, of Bridge Street, Barry, was ordered to pay £499 in compensation, costs, fines and a surcharge after he pleaded guilty to the criminal damage of garden furniture and a police cell.

Both offences were committed in Cardiff between July 4 and July 5.

CRAIG MARK GILLETT, 28, of Osprey Court, Barry, was ordered to pay a total of £316 in compensation, a fine, costs and surcharge after he admitted the theft of £50 cash, a Samsung mobile phone and a £70 Argos gift card.

PHILIP JOHN HOBBS, 39, of Hansen Street, Butetown, Cardiff, was jailed for 14 weeks after he admitted handling a stolen Vauxhall Corsa in Barry and driving with no insurance in February.

He was banned from driving for six months and also ordered to pay a £122 surcharge.

KIERON JOHN HATTER, 35, of Glenbrook Close, Barry, was ordered to pay £402 in fines, costs and a surcharge after he admitted two public order offences committed at Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales.

TIMOTHY STRINGER, 34, of Rhodfa Cambo, Barry, was fined £300 for speeding at 44mph in a 30mph zone in Bridgend.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 surcharge and his driving licence was endorsed with five points.

WAYNE GINO BURNELL, 36, of Vere Street, Barry, was ordered to pay £239 in a fine, costs and surcharge for driving without insurance on the A48 Eastern Avenue in Cardiff.

His driving licence was endorsed with six points.
