FOUR Dragons have been called up by Wales for the Six Nations - but speedster Jonah Holmes misses out.

Hooker Elliot Dee, tighthead Leon Brown, back row forward Aaron Wainwright and centre Nick Tompkins are in Wayne Pivac's squad for the tournament.

There is no place for veteran centre Jamie Roberts despite his fine form at Rodney Parade with Wales sticking with the quartet of Tompkins, Jonathan Davies, Johnny Williams and Owen Watkin.

However, Holmes is a victim of fierce competition in the back three with former Dragon Hallam Amos getting the nod along with George North, Josh Adams, Louis Rees-Zammit, Leigh Halfpenny and Liam Williams.

The WRU press release states that the wing/full-back has not been included because of injury, although the summer signing from Leicester is back in training after a blow to the head against the Scarlets on New Year's Day.

Holmes took his tally of caps to five with appearances off the bench against Georgia and Italy in the autumn.

Blindside/number eight Ross Moriarty is not included after suffering an ankle injury on international duty in the autumn, although he could return for the Dragons during the Six Nations.

Dee will battle with the fit-again Ken Owens and Ryan Elias for the 2 jersey while Brown joins tightheads Tomas Francis and Dillon Lewis in the squad, with Samson Lee injured.

Wainwright has a new rival for the back row with former Dragons favourite Dan Lydiate returning to the Test scene. The 33-year-old last appeared against Australia in 2018 when winning his 64th cap.

There is no place in the squad for his Ospreys teammate Rhys Webb.

β€œWe are hugely looking forward to meeting up as a squad on Monday and to the forthcoming campaign,” said Wales head coach Pivac.

β€œThe Guinness Six Nations is an important tournament and we have selected a squad accordingly.

β€œAs we consistently spoke about, the autumn for us was about opportunity and development, looking ahead to RWC 2023 and it served that purpose for us.

β€œThis campaign is different, it is tournament rugby and we are excited to get going and to play our part.

β€œWe have picked a squad for this tournament based on form and we are excited to meet up on Monday and to get our preparation under way.”

Wales kick off their campaign against Ireland in Cardiff on Sunday, February 7.
