LEON Brown has hailed "warrior" Brok Harris as a Dragons legend after the prop helped the Wales tighthead reignite his Test career.

Brown enjoyed an excellent season after responding to the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup.

The prop was not selected by Warren Gatland for Japan but got the nod from new boss Wayne Pivac, featuring in the uncapped November fixture against the Barbarians and all of the Six Nations games.

That was because of the 23-year-old's strong displays for the Dragons, with the scrum taking great strides thanks to his efforts alongside evergreen loosehead Harris.

The 35-year-old South African shouldered a heavy burden in the absence of injured prop Ryan Bevington and Jack Cosgrove, who was forced to retire because of a serious training ground eye injury.

Harris started every PRO14 game until he suffered a season-ending chest injury at Glasgow in February.

The stalwart was to the fore in the region's encouraging festive derby period – starting and finishing all three games against the Scarlets, Cardiff Blues and Ospreys.

Brown, whose emergence led to the South African switching from tighthead to loosehead, has hailed the stalwart prop's impact on and off the field.

The Wales forward, speaking before the suspension of the season because of the coronavirus , said: "Brok was a warrior with a fair few 80s. He's a legend and has been unbelievable for us, every time that he plays he is class.

"He was a tighthead when I was first coming through and is one of the older heads who is a top bloke, so it's good that he is staying.

"He is quiet and maybe isn't one for groups but is really good in one-to-ones, he is a definitely a big voice within the pack and one of the main men."

Barry And District News:

Harris, who arrived in 2014 fresh from winning the Currie Cup with Western Province, signed two short-term deals last season and last week agreed an extension for the whole of 2020/21.

The Dragons have also re-signed ex-Wales prop Aaron Jarvis, who can also play either side of the scrum, on a two-year deal.

Bevington, whose solitary appearance came in the opener against Munster because of a serious knee injury, will be out of contract in the coming weeks.

Loosehead Josh Reynolds and tighthead Chris Coleman, both 21, are earmarked for the future but director of rugby Dean Ryan is likely to add to his front row options for the next campaign.

He will also be looking for the Dragons to continue the improvement in the tight that they made under forwards coach Ceri Jones, who is set to be replaced by Mefin Davies for 2020/21.

"People don't see it but we genuinely worked so hard in the week. We all back each other to do the job," said Brown.
