WALES Women will be without boss Rowland Phillips for their start of their five-match autumn series.

The Welsh Rugby Union state that the dual-code international is "taking some time out away from the programme" ahead of Sunday's clash with Spain.

The fixture in Madrid is followed by games against Ireland in Dublin, Scotland in Glasgow, Crawshay's in Ebbw Vale and the Barbarians at Principality Stadium.

Former Dragons full-back Gareth Wyatt and his fellow coaches Chris Horsman and Geraint Lewis will call the shots in Phillips' absence.

The team has been named for Sunday's game against Spain with captain and hooker Carys Phillips, daughter of Rowland, winning her 50th cap.

The squad has also been named for the encounter with the Irish the following Sunday.

Twelve uncapped players have been named in the two matchday squads.

Six - wings Caitlin Lewis and Angharad De Smet, centre Megan Webb and forwards Gwenllian Jenkins, Georgia Evans and Abbie Fleming - will make their international debut in the starting line-up in the first game while Robyn Lock and Niamh Terry will also win a first cap if they come off the bench.

Backs coach Wyatt said: "This autumn is a fantastic chance to develop the players in a number of ways in order to continue to improve as a team.

"From a playing and performance perspective, we will be tested every weekend against very good international and invitational sides and we are determined to meet those challenges.

"The fact that the five matches take place on consecutive weekends, three of them away from home, brings another important dimension to our preparation and replicates a championship-type environment which will be invaluable to our development as players and coaches."
