WALES Women finished fourth in the Six Nations after finishing with a flourish by beating Ireland 24-5 at Cardiff Arms Park.
Rowland Phillips’ side enjoyed a last-gasp win in Scotland in round four but the scoreline was far more convincing in the capital.
Ireland, with the wind at their backs, started strongly and got their reward when wing Beibhinn Parsons crossed.
However, Wales responded strongly and levelled when Jess Kavanagh raced over then hit the front when captain Carys Phillips went over from a lineout drive with Lleucu George converting.
The hosts defended strongly when put under pressure and reaped the rewards when they broke down the other end with Dragons flanker Beth Lewis, a scorer in Glasgow, going over from close range.
George’s conversion earned a 19-5 lead and Wales had their bonus point when Olympic sevens speedster Jazz Joyce raced over from inside her own half after a superb finish.
