WALES Women's Euro 2021 qualifiers against Faroe Islands and Norway, which were scheduled to be played in Newport next month, have been postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Jayne Ludlow's side, currently second in Group C, were due to play the back-to-back home fixtures at Rodney Parade on April 10 and April 14.

But both games have now joined the long list of sporting events to be postponed or cancelled.

No date has been given for the re-arranged games.

Similarly, it has not been clarified how the decision to postpone Euro 2020 by 12 months will affect the 2021 Women's European Championship, which is set to take place in England from July 7 next year, four days before the proposed men's final at Wembley.

Wales – who are aiming to qualify for a first major finals – are currently four points behind leaders Norway with four games remaining.

The nine group winners and three best runners-up qualify automatically with the remaining runners-up entering play-offs.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Ford (above), chief executive of the Football Association Wales, has released a statement following the postponement of Euro 2020.

“The Football Association of Wales fully supports the decisions taken by the European football family to postpone UEFA Euro 2020, with the health and safety of everyone being the most important and only factor to consider,” said Ford.

"We understand the inconvenience this will cause amongst our fans who were looking forward to watching Wales play in the tournament this summer, but these are unprecedented times and we will all be working hard to assist where and when we are able to do so.

"The completion of the domestic season across Europe is also key and hopefully the solutions discussed today can be implemented following the constant monitoring of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The FAW is now working hard to find solutions for our own domestic competitions and to continue the administration work that is required with the challenges put before us.

"The FAW will continue to monitor the situation."
