Sully Centurions showed their pedigree as they celebrated Derby Day with a convincing 10-wicket victory over Swansea at Burnham Avenue.

Having lost the toss, Sully were asked to field on a hot afternoon, but David Eskins took two quick wickets to leave the visitors stunned at 0 for 2. Then he struck again to peg the score back to 30 for 3.

However a century partnership between Ashley Pass and Nick James took the score along to 144 for the fourth wicket, James falling to Mike O’Shea for a well deserved 79.

O’Shea followed up by removing Hayden for a duck before Pass added 29 with Lowen and another 21 with Ceri James before he went for a stubborn 61.

The final 4 wickets fell for just 10 runs, with Jamie Sylvester and Tom Evison bagging a pair each. The Swansea innings closed on 210 all out.

After tea Centurions’ opening pair of Mike O’Shea and Ryan Sylvester took no time in getting to grips with the Swansea attack, as they both dispatched the ball over the boundary ropes time and time again to leave the visitors reeling.

In spite of using seven bowlers, Swansea couldn’t find a way through and both players passed the 50 mark with ease. For once, Ryan took a back seat in the partnership, as Mike O’Shea showed why Glamorgan re-signed him this season, reaching a well deserved century.

Both batsmen were unbeaten, with Ryan on 69 and Mike on 128, Centurions reaching the target in the 27th over.

Sully 214-0; Swansea 210 all out.

SECONDS

SULLY Centurions 2nd XI travelled to St Helens, Swansea, to play the top-of-the-table side. Sully won the toss and decided to bat, and it proved a wise choice as it was the start of what can only be described as a hammering for the home side.

Sully's openers Rhett jones and Shaz Rehan set to work on the mediocre Swansea attack. Jones and Rehan played fluently and took the score to 164 in the 25th over when Jones, 6 short of a well-deserved 100, was lbw to George Pavey, hitting 14x4s and 2x6s in 78 balls.

Shae Ellis was next out, caught off George Pavey for 11.

Rehan was stroking the ball around and followed his 96 two weeks ago with 85 this time, before he was caught and bowled by Dominic Evans.

This brought Lloyd Bruce to the wicket to join Captain Matthew Thomas who was starting to play some awesome shots. Bruce and Thomas put on 58 before Bruce was caught off Edgington for a fine 21.

The next 2 wickets added 31 runs with Matthew Thomas 67 not out off 49 balls in a Sully total of 312 for 6, which included 25 wides and no maidens from Swansea.

Sully veteran Terry Williams opened the bowling and off his 4th ball had John Rees bowled for 0, then completed the first maiden of the match.

Adam Morris was bowled by Williams for 31 with the score on 57 and Sueter was caught by Callow off the impressive Bruce for 26 with the total on 65. Two runs later it was 67 for 4 when Pavey was caught by Rehan off Bruce for 4.

It was 72 for 5 when Derbyshire was caught off Williams for 0, and the score moved on to 94 before Sully picked up their 6th wicket when Harden was stumped by the improving Shae Ellis off the bowling of Bruce for 14.

Wily old fox Lawrence O'Sullivan came on to bowl and tied the Swansea batters in knots with his leg spinners, picking up the wicket of Murali for 28.

At 116 for 7, captain Matthew Thomas brought himself on to bowl to try and wrap up the win as the Swansea batsmen went into blocking mode, aiming for a draw.

Thomas bowled Antunes for 37 with the score on 158 and it soon became 165 for 9 when Matthew Rees was run out through Callow and Bruce.

Swansea shut up shop and looked certain of a draw when Evans was dropped by Bruce with 3 balls to go, but with just 2 balls left Evans lobbed the ball back to Callow who held the catch and Swansea were all out for 176 and a Sully win by 126 runs.

O'Sullivan was his usual economical self with 12 overs, 7 maidens, 1 for 24. Williams finished with 3 for 40 and Bruce 3 for 41. The pick of the Swansea batters were Murali 37 and Morris 31.

Sully Centurions 312 for 6. R. Jones 94, S. Rehan 85, M. Thomas 67 no. G. Pavey 2-61.

Swansea 176 all out. Murali 37, J. Rees 31. T. Williams 3-40, L. Bruce 3-41.

THIRDS

THE 3rd XI were 9 runs short of completing a clean sweep of victories but it was a game they should have won.

Sloppy fielding and 35 extras cost them dearly, along with some slow mid-innings batting.

Croesyceiliog 206-5. P Mason 37, A Scarborough 36 not out.

With skipper Mick Fisher away, Paul Harrison got the best out of the troops – with Josh Bryan returning remarkable figures of 4 for 12 off 10 overs.

Luke Burnett pitched in with 3 for 19 off 8 and, with a wicket each for Mark Burnett and Ricky Griffett, the Croesy innings ended on 73 all out after 24 overs.

Centurions’ reply took only 14 overs, as Ricky Griffett (20) and David Sharpe (32) ensured victory. Edwards, with 3 for 21 off 6 overs, was able to help the visitors salvage a couple of bowling points, but the victory was secured for the loss of 4 wickets.

Sully 74-4; Croesyceiliog-Woodlands 73 all out.

Sully’s reply started well with 51 on the board after 9 overs before Tom Johnson was run out for 10. Cameron Sleeth then had to retire on 37 not out after which two wickets were quickly lost.

Sully were still favourites as they only required 10 off the last 3 overs with wickets in hand but it wasn’t to be as the reply finished 1 run short on 89.
