SEA VIEW 2ND XV 37 TONGWYNLAIS 2ND XV 7

IT WAS a great day for Sea View RFC as their 2nd XV took to the field for the first time in a double header against Tongwynlais.

The sun finally shone on the View after several weekends of poor weather and neither game disappointed.

Both were played at the same time on their home ground at Barry Comprehensive, leaving the supporters spoilt for choice.

The 2nd XV drew most attention with their storming 37-7 victory, with 7 tries, including a brace from coach Willo Williams, scoring his first points since the old King was on the throne.

Playing at no 8 he was assisted by fellow coach Frank Grieg at scrum-half fiercely denying comments that he needs to work on his spin pass.

Other notable participants were team manager Charlie Gooderham and several sons and nephews. Fitness adviser Peter Sherrin also put in an appearance at wing forward.

The 1st XV had a great match which ended 10-10. The View were 10-0 down at the break after giving away a penalty which was followed by a converted try.

Tongwynlais made full use of their no 9's superb kicking both from the tee and in hand.

In the second half the View stepped up a gear improving on what was already a decent first half performance and put Tongwynlais under constant pressure.

The pressure eventually turned into points when the View were given a 5 metre scrum after scrum half Gareth Davies was held up on the try line.

Number 8 Jon Blake picked up from the base of the scrum to crash through and score.

The View pushed and pushed to get the score level with Man of the Match Jon Blake taking on the majority of the ball carrying from the rear of the rock solid Sea View scrum.

The View were given a penalty near the line and after a successful set piece move centre Damien Huggins went over for the score to level the game at 10-10.

Both teams had chances to win the game with the boot in the latter stages, but the evenly contested game ended in a draw.

There then followed a mass 40 man hokey-cokey, before the View departed the field to return to a packed clubhouse to watch the Wales v Italy game.

Our thanks as always to our supporters and sponsors, with special thanks to Tongwynlais RFC and a massive thankyou to Mrs Gooderham for cooking the curry.
