REPORT BY IAN JOHNSON

BARRY Town United have announced a six-match set of pre-season friendlies during July.

Steve Jenkins and Jonathan Jones will have a series of warm-up games before competitive Cymru Premier football starts in August, giving them a chance to look over the squad before the season gets into full swing.

Last season was Barry’s first back at the national level in Wales, with the club finishing in ninth place.

The first match sees Barry travel to National League North club, Oxford City, on Saturday, 6th July, kicking off at 3pm.

It will be a tough opener, against a club relegated from last season’s National League, and looking to bounce back quickly.

Barry are then at home against Yate Town a week later, on Saturday, 13th July, kicking off at 2:30pm at Jenner Park.

Yate finished last season in eighth place in the Southern League Southern Division, the division below Merthyr Town.

A home match is scheduled for Tuesday, 16th July, kicking off at 7:45pm, with the opposition still to be confirmed.

The following Saturday, 20th July, English League Second Division club, Newport County, will be Barry’s opponents at Jenner Park, kicking off at 2:30pm.

A full-time professional club, Newport finished in eighteenth place in the league last season, but will be looking to do better this time around.

Barry then go on their travels across the border once again on the following Tuesday, 23rd July, when they visit Hereford Pegasus of the Hellenic League, repeating a friendly between the two clubs in the mid-Winter break back in January.

The final match of the pre-season for Barry will see Swansea City under-21s visit Jenner Park on Saturday, 27th July, kicking off at 2:30pm.

It is anticipated that the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup, which includes clubs from Cymru Premier and Cymru South at this stage, will take place on the first weekend of August, before the league season starts the following weekend.
