The Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay 10K will return this weekend, promising a thrilling showdown in its Elite Field category.

Cardiff Bay's flat and fast race represents the second fixture of the R4W 10K Series and will likely stage a re-match among the top three men from the recent ABP Newport 10K race.

Three-time winner Omar Ahmed is set to compete.

He holds the course record at 28:42 and also triumphed in Newport, facing fierce competition from athletes Kadar Omar and Dewi Griffiths.

Other competitors include Welsh Commonwealth Games representative Jonathan Hopkins, a seasoned racer known for his impressive 10K record.

Mike Ward, known on the R4W race circuit, will join after a solid performance at the Valencia Ibercaja 10K in February.

James Hunt, the 2023 OGI Porthcawl 10K champ, and the 2022 Welsh Inter-Regional Cross Country Champion Ciaran Lewis are also under starters orders.

The women's ABP Newport 10K race winner Hannah Irwin, a previous Cardiff Bay third-place finisher, is a name to watch.

After her excellent performance at the ABP Newport 10K, she appears delighted with her return to racing after a careful training period.

Irwin's sterling record might even challenge Charlotte Arter's course record of 32:49 set in 2019.

Also in the running will be Alaw Evans, the locally loved athlete known for her victory at the new look CDF 10K last September.

Other notable competitors include Emily Carroll, Kate Roberts, Lucy Marland and Donna Morris.

From experienced athletes to up-and-coming local runners, this weekend's Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay 10K will see marathon enthusiasts and spectators gather to see the thrill of these fascinating races unfold.
