Once again the poor weather continued to disrupt football in Wales at the start of 2024 and all local Vale of Glamorgan games were postponed.

Only three Vale clubs in the SW Alliance League were able to blow away the festive cobwebs on Saturday, January 6.

In the SWAL's W John Owen Cup, Wenvoe based Ely Rangers faced a tricky game, travelling west, to face Maesteg Park.

The WJO Cup is known for many cup upsets and Rangers had to be aware they too could have been another victim of a cup upset!

However they put in a solid performance and came away with a comfortable 4-0 victory. Goals were from Archie Leckie, Alex Long and Richard Greaves plus an own goal.

The WJO QF draw was made after the games at Treforest FC White Tips Stadium by Ben Banks (Treforest FC) and Mekola Tuchli (Highadmit Projects & SWAL Sponsor) being broadcast live on X, formally Twitter.

The Rangers will face an away trip to the winner of Llantwit Fardre or Merthyr Saints.

In Premier Division action, Cardiff Airport unluckily came away on the wrong end of a 3-2 score at FC Cwmaman.

After going 2-0 down Airport fought back to 2-2 from a Curtis Scotto brace only to be denied by a 95th minute winner!

Championship action saw Sully Sports travelling to The Bont Playing Fields in Penydarren where their opponents managed to secure the 3G pitch.

In similar circumstance to Cardiff Airport the winner also came in stoppage time - via a penalty -  Aberfan winning 1-0.
