Barry ended 2023 with a hard fought home point against Cardiff Met, in a match affected by the strong winds at the weekend.

Although the result confirms that the Cardiff side finish the season in the top half of the table, Barry will be rather more pleased with the scoreline, in particular the clean sheet.

As so frequently the case in matches between the two sides, much of the game was fought in midfield and there were few clear-cut chances, although Barry had the better opportunities.

In the eighth minute, Harrison Bright’s cross from the right looped over the heads of Kayne McLaggon and Ollie Hulbert at the far post, neither able to get in position to head home.

Later in the first half, with Met failing to clear their lines at the edge of the box, Evan Press’s shot went just wide of the post.

The match came to life just before the hour mark when McLaggon beat his marker on the left. His low cross was met by substitute, Sam Snaith, allowing Keenan Patten to shoot from ten yards out, but Met ‘keeper, Alex Lang made the save.

Moments later, at the other end, Barry ‘keeper Luc Rees pulled off a save from Elliot Evans to keep it goal-less.

Lang was again called into action when McLaggon found space on the right, his near post shot being pushed wide by the visitors’ keeper.

The last chance of the game fell to Met, Using the wind, Elliot Evans laid off for Tom Vincent, whose shot from distance saw Rees dive to his right to save.

Barry remain in ninth place after the weekend fixtures, with two matches to play before the end of Phase One.

Town entertain fourth placed Newtown on Saturday, January 6 (2:30pm), before travelling to Aberystwyth Town in the final Phase One game on Saturday, January 13 (5:15pm).
