Barry Town won their third piece of silverware of the season, smashing Colwyn Bay six-nil in the Welsh Blood Service National Cup Final.

The club also celebrated new two-year contracts awarded to manager, Lee Kendall, winning a treble in his first year in charge, and his assistant Dafydd Williams.

The result against Colwyn Bay was, sadly, never in doubt, with the north Wales champions sending a depleted side to the final, blaming confusion over the fixture date.

But you can only beat what’s in front of you, as the saying goes, and Barry set about their task from the start.

Troy Greening opened the scoring in the fourth minute, lashing home from the edge of the box as Bay failed to clear a free-kick.

Barry hoped to make it 2-0 after nine minutes when awarded a penalty, but Kayne McLaggon’s effort was saved.

Nevertheless, Barry scored a second on the half-hour, when a chip into the box was headed over the advancing keeper by Josh Graham.

With Barry goalkeeper, Mike Lewis, practically a spectator, it was 3-0 a few minutes before half-time. Jordan Cotterill’s shot came back off the post for Kayne McLaggon to score the rebound.

Much of the second half passed without incident, until Barry put the tiring Colwyn Bay team to the sword in the final ten minutes.

Substitute Kyle Jones scored with a bullet header from a corner to make it 4-0 to Barry, while another set-piece saw a Curtis McDonald header loop over the Colwyn Bay defence for the fifth.

The sixth and final goal came in injury time when another Kyle Jones effort from a corner was blocked by the Bay ‘keeper, but Aiden Lewis was on hand to score from the rebound and end the game on a high.

Barry now look forward to a well-earned Summer rest ahead of next season’s JD Cymru Premier campaign.
