Wales Veterans Football Over 65s 2 England Veterans Football Over 65s 0

AS holders of the Dermot Gallagher Challenge Trophy, the Wales Veterans Football Over 65s team were not prepared to relinquish the silverware easily.

Despite dominating much of the first half at Dragon Park in Newport on Monday, they struggled to create many clear chances.

Peter Morgan of Penybont FC did produce a stunning swivel and shot which the England goalkeeper Adrian Stannard did well to parry away for a corner.

But it was not until late in the second half that the Barry Town pacey duo of Tim Bowker and Tim Morgan turned what looked like being a no goal draw into a comfortable Welsh win.

With 55 minutes gone, North Walian Bowker turned and an inch perfect pass enabled Peter Morgan to rifle low into the corner from just outside the box.

England had the opportunity to equalise shortly afterwards when England player manager Ken Pollock should have scored but he spooned the ball over the bar.

With Wales exerting more pressure on the creaking English defence, the match was settled in the 69th minute when Tim Morgan lost his marker and coolly volleyed home the decisive goal to end the hopes of the tiring English team.
